Every manufacturer has their version of this style shingle. The manufacturers available in the Denver Metro area are GAF, Certainteed, Owens Corning and Tamko. This is an entry level shingle and is the most popular due to price point. All manufacturers make a good product, it mostly comes down to a particular color that a homeowner wants.
Manufacturers are GAF, Owens Corning, Certainteed and Malarkey. Both Malarkey and Certainteed are SBS modified shingles and will be more impact resistant than the other manufacturers. Owens Corning Duration Storm is the most popular in this category due to price point and it will get you the same discount as the most expensive, Malarkey.
Note: Please check with your insurance company BEFORE paying for an upgrade to a Class 4 shingle. Some insurance companies restrict coverage in exchange for the offered discount therefore eliminating future roof coverage. NO COMPOSITION ROOF IS HAIL RESISTANT. If the hail is large enough it will damage your shingles regardless if its Class 4 or not.
This will include shingles like the Certainteed Presidential TL, Owens Corning Woodmoor or the GAF Glenwood. There are many of these style shingles available. They are all excellent quality and it really comes down to what style and color a homeowner prefers. Cost will not be a big factor here if a homeowner wants to upgrade to these style of shingles as they are all very competitive with each other.
This is a more industrial looking metal roof that is found on commercial buildings that have traditional pitched roofs. It is also used a lot in the mountains where large quantities of snow are received. This style of roof can be pinged up by hail, but will be completely serviceable after the hail event (will not need replaced). If you have this style of roof or are considering this style of roof, check with your insurer for coverage as many will not cover “cosmetic” (hail pings) damage as long as it is still functional.
Stone Coated Steel roofing is a metal panel that is stamped to a particular shape and then stone granules are “glued” to the metal panel using epoxy. The stone granules give its color. This type of roof is impervious to hail damage and is the most impact resistant of all. It is also one of the lightest weight roofing materials available on the market. For example, stone coated steel weighs about 1/10th of what a traditional concrete tile roof weighs and it looks almost identical from the ground.
I will install this if you wish but will try to steer you towards stone coated steel for the following reasons:
Thunderstorm Roofing will install either 5” or 6” seamless steel or aluminum. There are more colors available in aluminum but steel is stronger and the new composition steel will not rust. We will also install 2”x3” or 3”x4” downspouts. The larger downspouts are recommended for large roofs or homes that have a lot of mature trees around them
As an 8 ½ year veteran of the United States Air Force, one of the things that gives me more pride than anything, is to watch the flag that I proudly served to protect, wafting in the wind on the flagpole in front of my home.
With patriotism back at its highest levels in America in a very long time, I want to help encourage this by offering an Uncommon USA 16’ telescoping flagpole to any customer who has Thunderstorm Roofing install a complete new roof.
These flagpoles are proudly made in the USA. Because they are telescopic, there are no ropes to clang around in the wind. They come with a 3’x5’ US nylon flag, but have a double mast flag harness so that a second flag can be added by you, the homeowner, at any time. The double flag harness also allows you to easily fly the US flag at half mast when needed. Uncommon USA also offers a solar LED light that can be added to the top of the flagpole for nighttime lighting (I will provide ordering information for this).
If you, the homeowner and customer of Thunderstorm Roofing, would like to add this beautiful flagpole to your home, I will even install it for you wherever you wish.
Thank you for helping this veteran to keep patriotism alive and well in the greatest country on the earth, The United States of America.
